Everything, Everything Review

Synopsis:

My disease is as rare as it is famous. Basically, I’m allergic to the world. I don’t leave my house, have not left my house in seventeen years. The only people I ever see are my mom and my nurse, Carla.

But then one day, a moving truck arrives next door. I look out my window, and I see him. He’s tall, lean and wearing all black—black T-shirt, black jeans, black sneakers, and a black knit cap that covers his hair completely. He catches me looking and stares at me. I stare right back. His name is Olly.

Maybe we can’t predict the future, but we can predict some things. For example, I am certainly going to fall in love with Olly. It’s almost certainly going to be a disaster.

Review:

I am giving Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon 5/5 stars.

My heart grew two sizes cause of this book. I literally could not put it down, and it didn’t so finished it in a matter of a few hours. I don’t know if I just need a cute contemporary ya novel with a sick girl who falls in love, or what, but I fell in love with Everything, Everything.

I really enjoyed Yoon’s use of different writing styles to tell the story. Some were done as journal entries, emails, instant messages, or reviews of books that Maddy reads throughout the story. All these different techniques add a whole new life to the story and truly made me feel like I was right there with Maddy and Olly experiencing it all first hand.

I also really enjoy the complexity of Maddy and Olly as character not only together, but also on their own. With such a fast moving story many authors wouldn’t be able to develop these characters in the way to Yoon did. As I read, I was able to see them grow continuously from these innocent teenagers, to these mature adults facing the struggles in their lives.

So if you are wanting a fun, cute and quick read, pick up Everything, Everything!
